Firefox 3 debut a success in Kazakhstan

Posted by Tim

2323 Kazakhs have downloaded the latest release of Mozilla Firefox 3, as of the 21st hour of “Download Day 2008“.

The Firefox team set out on a mission to set a Guinness World Record for the most software downloads in a 24 hour period.  At the time of this writing, they have reported more than 7.22 million downloads worldwide.

Download Day 2008

If you are still using Internet Explorer, I’m sorry.  I’d highly recommend checking into Firefox, a free, open-source, standards-based web browser that makes life easier for web developers by following the rules.

Right-on on that “following the rules” thing. I used to use Internet Explorer as my primary browser and refused to switch to Firefox simply because the CTRL+O key combination didn’t allow me to open a URL.

Having used Firefox to test standards compliance, I much prefer it to IE.

Opera is another good browser. IE is the Windows ME of browsers (or is it the Vista of browsers?).

8.3 million downloads in 24 hours and surpassing the record set by its predecessor, Firefox 2, of 5 million downloads in late 2006.

Not a bad “Download Day” at all.

There’s no doubt that IE is inferior to Firefox and always will be less Microsoft jumps the wagon (with concern to Microsoft’s lack of following widely accepted web standards). However, stating Firefox as free up front may not be the best selling point… “Just because it’s free, doesn’t make it better” …thoughts?
